*le sigh*
Okay, so a combination of the social requirements of being an officer, seven hours of TF2, a failed attempt to play golf in jeans, and the combination of 18-yr scotch whiskey with cheap Japanese hamburgers lead to not only me waking up at 6am in the middle of my stateroom naked somehow eating a grilled cheese, but also a case of complete loss of creativity. I meant to have a new WIP sample for the theme song finished this weekend, but I have failed.
Here is a link to what someone else was able to be with the same program: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kdup_mSAHE
THAT is what I'm trying for. All I came up with on Sunday was this: http://soundcloud.com/stormpone/new-attempt-1/s-83dFs
Given that STO is much more violent that typical ST works, I was leaning towards a more militaristic sound. I'm running out ideas already.

Perhaps you should put some parts that seem peaceful as to fit the more peaceful tone of our fleet

Y'all haven't seen the attempts I made trying to do just that because they've been even less successful than what you have heard so far. They come out more fantasy-themed with no Star Trek feel whatsoever. I'll think of something. This project isn't going to die off right after the start.
Re: Music Projects
use the first part of the MLP theme and turn it to a military themed orchestra as an intro to the fleet theme?

That was the focus of my efforts over this entire weekend while I was stuck on the ship. The problem is that while I have been able to somewhat reproduce the opening title as a brass ensemble, the virtual recorder in my program isn't...recording. That and the midi board interface looks like lunch coming back up after a bought of seasickness. I actually did get a lot done on other track ideas and the main intro transition sequence. Once I figure out the opening to the intro, I think we'll be in business.

Victory! I have just learned how to manipulate the midi editor in my music program. Now to either fiddle with the opening chords to produce something with a more Star Trek feel or try to learn actual sheet music.
Re: Music Projects
If you want to learn how to write music in sheet music form, Finale Notepad is great for that! It's also free.
