I love this story, as painful as it is for me to read it. It's beautifully written. What would you do if you were the last one of your kind? How would you find purpose? And if you could restore things, how far would you go to to make things right?

Well, it is sad. I also can't guarantee that you won't have some sort of existential breakdown and contemplate the meaning of loneliness and being alone after reading it.

Here's the thing: Cupcakes and Rainbow Factory(which if I read the right one, was written horribly) were meant to scare you or gross you out. Or creep you out.

But End of Ponies? That fanfic is expertly penned, and beautifully arranged to tell a very sad, lonely, hopeless tale. It is in a completely different category than Cupcakes. Cupcakes is creepy and down right sick. End of Ponies is an emotional ride–it's designed to stir your sympathy for the main character, and prompts the horrifying question:
What if you we're the last member of your race alive? How would you deal with it? No one is coming back. No one is left to fine. It's just you, and a plethera of creatures that despise your race, placing the blame on them for the condition of the world...

...and what if you had to track down the remains of your friends, discovering how they died? What if your only chance to see them again was in a form no one recognized? What if no matter what you did in the past, they were still destined to die?

Well anyhow... Perhaps others who read it are less sensitive to those thoughts than I, and you will be able to read it just fine. If you do, tell me if it gets any better?

I must remember that the written word does not convey tone of voice very well. I was just joking around. I absolutely do not approve of what have dubbed "glue fics" because they're taking most of what I love about both the show, and many of the fics that I enjoy, and twisting it into something awful. I read one and listened to a reading of the other because my curiosity about the responses and references to them got the better of me. I am in no way "scarred" like I hear many others say, but neither I am wholy desensitized to the content.

Now, as I still have the latest update to "Paradise" to finish as well as an actual book ("The Social Animal"), I'm taking "The End of Ponies" as a challenge. If you want to know if it gets any better, then you shall know.

As a seperate note, if you want a well-written, tear-inducing story that has both a bittersweet ending with a drop of liquid hope, I would recommend "Yours Truly." I read it on EQD a while back and keep it bookmarked. It is listed as Shipping because of Mane 6 relationships, but the overall tone, I think, makes them emotional enough that even those who don't like that kind of shipping can enjoy the story.

Light and Stormy's conversation makes me think that I was right in thinking about suggesting a deep discussion forum. But yeah... that story... so well written.
