Minecraft Ponies

I know how popular this game is and I was wondering if anyone has it? I know of a few pony servers we could use. There is also the pony mod.

My user name is colorful_peace (traded a free game I got from the Christmas sale on Steam for an account a guy wasn't using).

I'd love to set up a game of Minecraft sometime, I can handle a handful of ponies on my own internet so running a small private server is generally not an issue. Generally.

I have two accounts, Stormy_Seas and joenavy, and can tell you that the pony models make the game all the better. I've played on a couple of the brony servers but found most of their circles to be very tight and difficult to get into. I too would love to get a game going.

Sounds like I have another game to invest in...

...no wait! I don't have time! Not with Diablo 3 and STO! Well, maybe I could visit every so often...

Sounds like somepony needs to invest in multiple displays so he can have all three running at the same time. But trust me, Minecraft shenanigans are on par with STO shenanigans only in a more private setting unless it's over a public server.

If this does end up happening, I would suggest getting the Technic Pack. It comes with an integrated launcher that handles a variety of mods as well as the vanilla Minecraft. Chief among them is the Technic Pack itself which includes such addons as Buildcraft and Industrialcraft. If you've never used them, these expand the base game to include machines, computers, power generators, a minimap with a waypoint system, new creatures, and even....the ability to construct nuclear power plants to create matter from energy.

Only problem with mods is that once you update the game, they're gone. But I have had some fun with them.

How many ponies would be interested is starting our own server? CyberFoxx and myself have both run our own private servers in the past, Vanilla and Tekkit, so set up would be rather easy. Question would be, how many people would be interested and how it would it be hosted.

I've always run from my own private server, but bandwidth restrictions on my home ISP would limit how many could be on at a time.
The other option would be to rent a server, but I would need to get some people interested in sharing the server costs.

Let me know if it's something worth looking into. Having our own whitelist server is always a nice way to avoid a lot of the greifing that goes on in public servers.

I also have my own server, a payed for one that me and a few friends go on. It's not too expensive, only about £5 a month for a 8--10 man server, although it's hosted in the UK so any US folk would be very laggy.

However the company i use also hosts US servers iirc so i shall look into it when i'm back on my proper PC, since this one i'm on is dumb and won't load the site properly Razz

That's actually not to bad. I know there are some cheaper minecraft hosts out there, but I often wonder about the amount of RAM they offer with the lower tier servers. Tekkit especially needs a good amount of memory to handle all the BuildCraft and IndustrialCraft logic.

If you can give me a link to your host I will check it out.

Recently, I've been getting back into Minecraft in a big way as a more calming alternative to STO and Diablo III; specifically the Technic Pack. If folks are serious about getting a server for us all to play on, I'd be more than willing to help out. I'm in a very stable situation financially, so I wouldn't mine one bit funding the rental of hosting services, though I know nothing about server setup or maintenance.

Which version do most of you play: Creative, Survival, or a hybrid variant?

I personally like Creative cos i like making big pony statues/pixel art, but obviously we'd have to see what ponies would prefer

Multiple World can be set up with out to much trouble. With a bit of tweaking you can have one world for Creative and another for survival. it takes a bit more memory for the server to run both worlds, but nothing major for small groups of people. Any one who has not tried Tekkit you can grab a copy of it here http://www.technicpack.net/tekkit/

You can try it out in single player mode to see all the new blocks and machines it adds. I'd give you my server address but I'm using the old 2.1 version, and it's installed on a dual boot machine since it had the most amount of RAM out off all my computers... Plus my server died so I've lost a bunch of my routing tables until my new one shows up.

So if enough people are willing to run the modded client for Tekkit then I think it is worth setting up. Also, I believe that the Mine Little Pony mod comes already installed with the new 3.0 version.

--edit-- I just double checked, looks like they took it out of the stable release of 3.0. Might have something to do with the bug people had when using Texture packs made for Tekkit's additional blocks. I think CyberFoxx was having that problem when he manualy added it it to the 2.1 version. I just use the default textures, and it worked fine for me.

Well been busy the past few weeks, but I've looked into setting up a server. I still think going with a host is the best bet. I have the hardware but 512kbps up speed just does not cut it. Most hosts also seem to support PayPal, so this will make it a bit easier for some of you who might be willing to pitch in on the costs a bit. I hope to have host by the weekend so I can start setting up a server. I also really want to make it a tekkit server, but will have to wait and see, Tekkit needs more resources because of the mods so it also will cost a bit more a month to run it...

Looking at Beastnode right now http://www.beastnode.com/minecraft.html possibly their "Wolf" tier as I've read a few people in some minecraft forums use them for running Tekkit. They also have free web hosting and mumble hosting included with the minecraft servers.

P.S. Will be running it white-list so every one who wishes to play will have to give me their minecraft usernames to add to the list when it opens. I'm hoping this will keep out the Griefers since any one on this forum should be part of the Fleet.

P.S.S. If you want to help me pay for the server I made a donation link https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=6VD5JMPUPRFDU Any extra bit I get will help pay for additional months. Currently waiting on them to verify my account since I have not used paypal for 7 years and needed to update all my information lol hopefully they will have that done by this weekend so I can get the server.

Before you go and spend money on a hosted server, I actually set one up myself on Monday using Fragnet's service (www.fragnet.net). I spent last night testing the server, which is located in San Jose, CA, and for someone in Japan it was working quite well. As of now the server has 1.5GB RAM and 50 GB HD space for use and I've set the slot limit at 12 but it should be able to handle up to 24 without any difficulty. I havn't set many of the parameters because I'm still learning their Control Panel but I have already been blown up by Creeper twice, so I know it works. It's currently running Tekkit on Easy/Survival with no NPC spawns. I did not go for the 10 free Mumble slots becuase I didn't know of anyone that used the service, but that can be changed. It's billed monthly and I had planned on continuing to fund the server myself if it worked out to everyone's approval. Once it's running properly I had planned on making an announcement and handing out the address to those interested, but not before.

If you'd like to go ahead and set up another, we can try both and see which works out best. I'll be underway with my ship till this weekend so I won't be able to continue testing and configuring till then. And if yours works out better, given my own lack of experience in the field, you can count me in as a supporter.

what are their payment options? they are a bit more price wise than beastnode, but they give a lot more storage space as well.

-edit- never mind, found the answer on the site.

I'm still going to get my own up and running, it's something I've been wanting to do for a while now. Also I'm rather particular for how I want it to be set up.

I know people have also commented on wanting Creative, so a second Vanilla Server might be something we could do as well. Flat World with no spawns would not need much in the way of memory and should be simple to run on a small hosting plan. Giving people Creative mode in Tekkit is just asking for trouble though... lol

Creative mode in Tekkit...oh, the possibilities.

That's cool. If the thread could get an update when you're finished with the setup so we know what sort of specifics have gone into the server, I'd be much obliged. There are several folks on my ship that have expressed an interest in a server of their own, so I'll probably keep mine regardless and run it on a reduced plan for them. And a second world for Vanilla in Creative could be fun too. Like I said, I'm still up for contributing once the world is up and running and once I return to port. Once this gets on its feet, it can join WoT and TF2 in the ranks of games we've unofficially expanded into.

I'm still stuck waiting on paypal to transfer money from my bank acount but I've been busy setting up a Tekkit 3 server on my server at home. Sadly my ISP's shoddy uprate is just not enough to get any one connected but hopefully once all is set up to go I can just copy over the config files and be ready, fingers crossed.

For the time being I have some links for people who my not know what Minecraft is, but have never used Tekkit.

First is a link to some Let's Play videos by the Yogcast guys playing tekkit 3. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL310728C6AAFF44B1&feature=plcp

This one here is another series done by a member of the Yogcast. It's more of a "walk through" style and even though it's Tekkit 2, it's still mostly relevant info. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF31FF54CE3BCA21F&feature=plcp

The next couple of links are the Wiki's for some of the main mods in the Tekkit pack.
http://wiki.industrial-craft.net/
http://equivalentexchange.wikispaces.com/
http://minecraftbuildcraft.wikia.com/
http://integratedredstone.wikispaces.com/
http://railcraft.wikispaces.com/

Lastly, I need some feed back on what we should do for a spawn. Give me a heads up with your ideas.

Sounds like you've been busy. I'm looking forward to this once it gets all set up; I've been quite tired of SSP and the handful of servers I've visited over the months. As for spawn ideas, I'll have to get back to you on that. Hopefully someone else has one already in mind.

Ok, I'm moving the server into Clossed Beta. I've whitelisted everypony here who has given me there user names and you can all come try out the test map I have running right now.

Server IP: 66.225.231.138:26265
Dynmap link: http://66.225.231.138:16265/
User Limit: 5 (for the time being)

Just remember this is a Modded server. YOu will need to download the Technic Launcher from here --> http://www.technicpack.net/ and log in with a valid Minecraft account. Also be sure to select Tekkit from the Launcher.
I will post a how too on installing the Mine Little Pony mod to Tekkit in the future or you can bug CyberFoxx/Trixie on skype if you like.

I'm hoping this will stress test the server a bit to be sure I'm not going to have any problems with the mods. As is I've disabled Computer Craft and Wireless redstone as they can cause to many problems with server load. I've also disabled some EE items that can be used for greifing, not that I expect any with the white list. But some of them are easy to blow you own house up with if your not careful.(We have Nuclear Reactors for that.)

So log on and have some fun. I will be adding more user names to the white list as they become available to me.
